Since 1989, Christopher Choate has used poetry to express his heart
and relationship with God. Over the years, it has become a means of worship to the
Almighty, of intercession for others, and a channel of deep communication. It is
the hope of the author that his works will draw you into this same
place where freedom, hope and love abound.

Two books of a trilogy by Christopher entitled, Current 84
are now available for purchase. Each work features 28 poems and is complemented by
inspiring imagery. The first of these, Images and
Intimacy, contains poetry from the early years of his writing.
The second book, The Beautiful Wound, continues to
explore the wonders of a relationship with the Divine Heart. Together with artists
Eve Hennessa, Isabel Castaneda and Roy Petersen, the author focuses on what it means
to worship God. Is it an act of one-way communication, or is it a transaction of
sorts that honors Him and transforms us in the end?
Featured below are sample writings from each of the books.

The Beautiful Wound

eternity constrained to flesh and time
who could abide such Presence?
when His feet and hands meet soil and skin
how can they survive the shine?
harlot kisses One who dwells
between the wings of angels
lips that sold for lust and blood
now touching the core of innocence
so much sin, so much forgiveness
so, much love
a friend becomes a traitor to settle on his grave
treason's lips meet faithfulness
so much malice drinks the chalice
of forbearance suffering long
soldiers mock and beat the Son
but consuming wrath restains its fist
(at His command)
hands of harm and hate
against the Prince of Peace
so much pain for healing's cry
yet not one meets death
in the sight of such holiness
for He holds back His fatal Hand
that love's true strength may ever stand

visit my love with ineffable, sustaining affections
such as rains in sweet grace over lands
parched for want of healing
and tender roots to hold together
what lies beneath what eyes behold but cannot
penetrate
beware though the flash flood that washes over fallow ground
refreshed, but deceived away from the need to drink deep
that the taste is ever enough to linger there
in vain and hollow memory
for even love can be a doctrine
a dogma of lethargic souls content to speak of oceans
but relenting forever to set sail and let fly the furls
nay, the taste of brine and wind combing hair in tangled fray
this is the way to capture beauty!
where risk, pent up at the bow and bending low
to dig into mountains
blue with heaven
this is the knowing of magnitude divine
such is the pulse of heaven's King!
who sings and swings not on letter or paper
but bids these dry dock ships to shove off from piers
too long rotting by the lapping of tedious, decaying muse
safe
but dead in the thinking of it all
so launch then and damn the fears!
this is the ocean of God's blood
though salted by countless fears
yet full and magnificent
in the fathoms of His unrelenting love
